DirecTV's CEO says his company has the rights to Auto Hop-type ad-skipping technology too, but indicates they haven't chosen to deploy it because demand isn't there. (Hmm...)
Yeah, seems a little fishy to you too, huh? Yeah, me too; DirecTV knows there’s a demand for ad-skipping technology. I mean, they use it on their own remotes, and are claiming to have bought up tech with the same capability five years ago. Everyone is interested in this. Dish knows it, DirecTV knows it, I know it; I work in a Dish call-center and Auto Hop is ALL I talk about. EVERYONE wants this! What I think is that DirecTV got beat to the punch so now it’s all sour grapes and gloom and doom. Now they have the luxury of sitting back in the shade and letting Dish go to the mat with the networks and their lawyers, and when Dish walks away the winner, DirecTV will be right there, saying how it was their idea all along, all ready to go with some rushed to production inferior ad-skipping receiver. Come on, DirecTV; don’t try and sneak across the finish line when you haven’t even laced up your running shoes.
