Hating Twi-hards
Will Brooker says those who hate on devoted Twilight fans and, by extension, female fan pleasure should think twice about what exactly they're mocking. Elsewhere, Noah Berlatsky addresses Bella hate, and Alyssa Rosenberg takes issue with some of Berlatsky's definitions and arguments.

ReplyDeleteMy main problem with the series - both the books and the movies - is the glorification of the abusive relationship that's at the forefront. And I remind my cousins of that when they get all gushy about it.
I'll admit, however, that I watch the movies with a friend to mock it relentlessly, and wait for Jacob to take his shirt off.
I'm picky enough about film and TV to know what I like, and exactly what I don't like. And my main problem with Twilight is that it's telling my teenage cousins that it's okay to be in a controlling relationship, and it's not.
But that's me.
