More coverage of news issues: The Pew Project has released its State of the News Media 2011 report (Michael Malone summarizes), which shows that online consumption of news has surpassed newspapers (local news is second to online); TV is still dominant for political news; NPR saw gains but its future is cloudy; all three cable news outlets have lost viewers over the past year, while local news maybe be bouncing back; an anchorless news broadcast launches in Houston this week; and Hank Stuever notes how news outlets have amplified the already shocking footage from Japan.
